VENICE
A
CONTEMPORARY CITY

Guided visits of temporary exhibitions and permanent collections of modern and contemporary art, artists’ studios and galleries.

Art Scene

The city of Venice houses some of the finest art and architecture in the world,  famous for a cultural patrimony that arcs from medieval times to the late 18th century. However, few are aware that hidden within its labyrinth of alleys and canals is a rich, creative contemporary art scene.

With the first Biennale in 1895 the city opened to the new trends of the Secession and later the European avant-garde, attracting artists, collectors and gallery owners from around the world. Today's Biennale is arguably the most important contemporary art exhibitions in the world.

In addition to this bi-annual event, there are foundations such as the Guggenheim and Pinault along with a significant number of museums and private galleries that contribute to the contemporary scene with permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.

Drawn by the city‘s unique beauty, numerous international artists have made their home here. Now a lively community, their mediums range from sculpture, painting and glass to digital technology.

Contemporary Venice offers a number of itineraries devoted to the discovery of the development and creation process of contemporary art.
